Livingston Eyre were asked to design the planting for the world's largest Audi Centre on a prime site alongside the elevated section of the M4 above the Great West Road. The building will offer retail, service, office, conference, exhibition and museum space.
The area available for planting was very limited due to requirements for parking and the presence of extensive underground parking decks and subways. The Planners' desire for substantial planting at the frontage also had to be carefully balanced with the Client's desire for their showroom and forecourt areas to be visible.
A striking planting scheme of structured curves of low-growing plants coupled with columnar trees was devised. In this way the soft areas could give the maximum of impact whilst still allowing plenty of views through to the critical areas. In addition, climbing plants on steel trellis structures were used to clothe the huge walls surrounding the site without affecting their structure.
