The Suffolk Wharf development fronts both the popular Camden High Street and the Grand Union Canal. The scheme links the busy shopping street and markets to the canal-side walkway, whilst combining a fully accessible public route and a series of outdoor spaces for the new ground floor retail units.
The sinuous form of the external space that wraps around the building was designed to allow for these uses to overlap. The intention was for the different areas to be designated, without the need for barriers, by changes in the ground materials.
A simple, restrained palette of small unit and brick paving was put together to complement both the historic lock-keeper’s cottage and the new retail and office building.
