Strawberry Vale is a housing estate built in the early 1970?s in East Finchley, London, The estate has 265 dwellings with a high proportion of families and elderly people.
£1.6 million was allocated by European funding for external improvements to the whole estate. After an extensive consultation exercise with tenants and key stake holders proposals for improvements to roads, parking, public and private boundaries together with open spaces were drawn up.
A key part of the improvements involved upgrading 'The Green'. This open space is at the heart of the estate and was previously a neglected play area which was ill-defined with no boundaries or functioning circulation routes.
The proposals implemented new fencing and controlled gates which define the space and it?s boundaries. The pedestrian circulation across the space was restructured with new paths.
