This new centre provides therapy rooms and individual bedrooms for adults who are recovering from mental health illnesses, but who do not require a secure unit hospital service. The landscape was carefully crafted to respond to the needs of the patients and it extends from the building providing communal outdoor spaces that are secure and well monitored yet stimulating and therapeutic.
From the reception there are views into a sculpture garden. Courtyards in the central area are designed for controlled access. The 'Therapy Garden' provides an outdoor extension to the therapy area, and includes colourful sensory planting and sheltered seating areas for patients and staff to relax individually and in groups.
Unit courtyards have been devised as social spaces for group activities whereas the unit gardens are more private and contemplative in nature. A boundary area of paths, meadow and hedging between the two fences will only be accessible to staff.
