The site for West Inverclyde Secondary School is on the busy Inverkip Road. The design concept was to keep teaching areas as far as possible from the busy road as possible. School buildings are therefore arranged along the north side of the site leaving room for protective screen planting and acoustic earthshaping along the south side.

The courtyard between the school building wings contains areas of hard surfaces in warm colours with stepped seating leading out to layered grass areas.
