The Port Glasgow Primary School site sits high on a hill overlooking the River Clyde. The landscape concept works with the steeply sloping site contours to create and subdivide areas of the playground. Different zones are created for the range of age groups and activities. Indoor activity areas are linked through into covered outdoor spaces. These lead out into larger hard play areas for running around and general play.

Beyond these areas are more intimate softer spaces for quieter informal play in the form of small circular nodes which could be used for a variety of activities and are potential areas for the addition of play equipment in the future.

The main Infant playground to the south is sunk below the level of the car park and thus secluded by the planted bank. Activity benches for play and learning are situated close to the building. An attractive existing valley outcrop is to be retained as a habitat area.
