A new campus on the western edge of Cambridge with Edward Cullinan Architects. The construction has been divided into four phases: Phase One completed 2000, Betty and Gordon Moore Library completed 2001, Pavilion E completed 2002 and Phase Two completed in 2003.
On a site surrounded by large residential houses, Livingston Eyre conceived a linear park wrapping around a grass-roofed central court and satellite pavilions. Wedges of trees extend on skewed axes from the site boundary into stepped sunken courtyards between the pavilions, visually connecting the park from side to side.
The design team’s response to the site has ensured that pattern of the surrounding suburban landscape has not been interrupted, despite the client’s need for a high-density scheme.
