Livingston Eyre Associates produced a Landscape Report for the Lottery Submission for this key historic site in Coventry, looking first at the site itself, its development history, proximity to other buildings and routes and its visibility from across the city. The proposed CAMC buildings present dynamic facades to the streets, and the landscape concept created courtyards, squares and paved routes to support the accessibility and use of the buildings.
Opportunities for the integration of site specific art works were explored to the full, and the landscape design was developed with this in mind. Numerous locations were identified as sites for metalwork (gates and balustrades), mosaics, tiling designs, and engravings or reliefs (on floors and walls). These discussions can also cover the design of signage, markers and site furniture, as well as three dimensional pieces generally. The ultimate aim is to work in close collaboration with the artists and craft people, and therefore avoid the insensitive placing of individual pieces or their imposition on an environment.
